One of our favorite up-and-coming wineries, Cantine Benvenuto in Calabria, Italy. Wed, Aug 16, 23 Cantine Benvenuto was born from the initiative of Giovanni Benvenuto after he moved to the west coast of Calabria, Italy, near the picturesque town of Pizzo. Giovanni has worked tirelessly to revive the vineyards of his grandfather, focusing on indigenous varietals such as Zibibbo, Malvasia, Greco Nero and Magliocco. All of his vineyards are farmed organically, and the wines see minimal intervention in the winery. All of the Benvenuto wines are great options as we contend with the hot weather this week. The Mare (Sea) Bianco is incredibly aromatic, with notes of flowers and sweet tropical fruits, and yet incredibly vibrant and crisp. One of our favorite wines of this summer. The Celeste (Heavenly) Rosato is aptly named, with incredibly pretty strawberry and currant notes and again, mouthwatering acidity. A perfect summer rosé. And finally, the Terre (Land) Rosso is an excellent accompaniment to any grilled foods or even burger night. Intense ripe red fruit, hints of black pepper, leather and chocolate are all in balance with soft, elegant tannins. ~Scott Smith, Wine Buyer/Manager By Scott Smith
