Giacomo Borgogno E Figli Langhe Nebbiolo “No Name” Wed, Dec 06, 23 Our wine of the week is a superb choice for fans of big red wines, and more specifically Barolo. A perfect match for all your favorite holiday meals. Borgogno's 'No Name' is 100% Nebbiolo, grown in Borgogno's estate vineyards in Barolo, Italy. The grapes are farmed organically and the wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for over two years. The 'No Name' label has a rich and controversial past. In 2005, upon submitting Barolo samples to be certified by the Italian authorities, Borgogno was told their wine was an insufficient color for Barolo. In protest, Borgogno bottled the wine under the 'No Name' label as a Langhe Nebbiolo. While the wine could be classified as a Barolo today, it has been produced under the 'No Name' moniker ever since. 'No Name' has alluring aromas of violet, rose, spice, tar, and wild cherry. The wine has a full-bodied mouthfeel, balanced acidity and layered flavors of mature red fruits. The lively acidity and firm structure hold up to hearty dishes like braised meats, wild game stew, aged cheeses, or with grilled portobello mushrooms and eggplant. This is a wine of incredible value, as it is not officially recognized as a Barolo but is grown amongst some of the finest Barolo out there. ~Scott Smith By Scott Smith
