The ultimate Barolo for your Thanksgiving meal! Fri, Nov 10, 23 In 1959, the Oberto family from Langhe purchased a farmhouse in La Morra and the rest is history. Today, the 40 acre estate is run by Andrea Oberto and his son Fabio. Andrea founded the estate in 1978. Prior to that, the Oberto's were strictly growers, that sold their grapes to other wineries. Nowadays, Andrea mainly works in the vineyard, tending to the vines, and his son Fabio takes on the winemaking duties and is assisted by his wife Ornella. At times, sommeliers and wine critics have branded Oberto as "too modernist" because of his use of barriques. The reality is, very little new oak is ever used, with most of the wines being aged in 2nd and 3rd year filled barrels, mitigating any aggressive wood influence. The proof is the bottle, this is classic Barolo that retains what the magical grape called Nebbiolo can bring to the table. 2017 Andrea Oberto Barolo del Comune di La Morra is pure magic, as the wines from here are known as the most perfumed and graceful of the Barolos. There aren't enough descriptors for this wine... The bouquet offers cherries, roasted plum tart, rose petals, new saddle leather, bay leaves, crushed mint, ground espresso coffee, and freshly turned loam. The mouthfeel is exuberant and offers supple flavors of raspberry ganache, grilled plum, orange peel, crushed coriander that are perfectly framed by just enough tannins in the juicy structure. This is the ultimate Barolo for your Thanksgiving meal. ~Michael Rodriguez, By Michael Rodriguez
